Introduction to ITRS Analytics
What is ITRS Analytics? Copied
ITRS Analytics is a real-time observability platform and the technology chassis that powers ITRS’ product offerings. It is designed to help financial services and other highly regulated enterprises ensure that their mission-critical applications are always-on.
ITRS Analytics enables always-on enterprises to transform a massive amount of critical monitoring data into actionable insights. By ingesting time series metrics, logs, traces, and events into a single repository, it centralizes and enriches critical observability data from infrastructure, applications, and networks. This unified view gives clear oversight of their entire environment, helping them make sense of vast amounts of monitoring information, uncover deeper insights, and take decisive action to maximize performance and reduce operational risk.
As a powerful observability platform for data storage and analytics, ITRS Analytics ensures your monitoring data is not only captured but also made visible, accessible, and primed for in-depth analysis. This means faster detection of issues, more accurate root cause analysis, and smarter decision-making that protects uptime and performance.
With the ability to integrate with ITRS tools and custom-fit applications, ITRS Analytics delivers an end-to-end solution from data collection and aggregation to advanced analytics and visualization, helping you maximize operational performance, reduce risk, and stay ahead of business demands.
As a “monitor of monitors”, ITRS Analytics brings context and meaning to alerts from your various monitoring systems. ITRS Analytics also has capabilities for predicting performance issues and forecasting resource utilization. By applying probable cause analytics, ITRS Analytics helps reveal the most likely source of a problem in your IT operations.
Deployment options Copied
ITRS Analytics can be deployed as ITRS Managed, on a Client-managed cluster, or as an Application on VM. The deployment changes how an administrator installs and manages the platform. It does not change how users access the apps. See Deployment options to choose a supported method for your environment.
Before you install, determine your sizing requirements with the ITRS Analytics Sizer. The tool estimates cluster size and resource usage from your cluster type, intended apps, and configuration. Complete this step before you provision infrastructure so the chosen deployment can support your workload.
Access the Web Console Copied
The Web Console is the browser interface for ITRS Analytics apps. Use the navigation menu to move between the user-facing apps installed in your environment.
Entity Viewer is the usual starting point for monitoring and investigation. Use it to browse entities, organize them into context-based views, and inspect their metrics and current state. If you use Geneos, you can also run supported commands from Entity Viewer. The originating Gateway enforces command permissions.
Open other apps from the same navigation menu to investigate signals, view dashboards, search logs, review traces, manage data, or configure integrations. Some components run as supporting services and do not appear in the navigation menu.
Apps in ITRS Analytics Copied
Each ITRS Analytics app supports a specific monitoring, investigation, administration, or integration task. User-facing apps share the Web Console, so you can move between them without opening separate user interfaces. The apps and tasks available to you depend on the apps installed in your environment and your permissions.
Tip
For descriptions, interactive demonstrations, selection information, and links to each app’s documentation, see ITRS Analytics apps overview and selection.
Apps are bundled with an ITRS Analytics installation package, which defines the available apps and their versions. Apps are not installed from the Web Console.
Operations Copied
Use these apps to monitor services and investigate changes:
- Alerting — Filter signals by context, severity, duration, category, or entity. For example, you can focus on critical signals, identify the entities producing the most signals, and separate persistent conditions from short-lived changes. Selecting an entity shows its signal history alongside metric values.
- Audit — Review recorded user and system activity for operational investigation or compliance requirements.
- Dashboards — Combine selected indicators, charts, and dataviews to give a team a focused view of the services or entities that it monitors.
- Entity Viewer — Browse monitored entities and inspect their metrics and current state. Create a context to filter entities and group them by information such as environment or service. You can clone a context, share it with other users, and use the same context to filter signals in Alerting.
- Ingestion — Manage ingestion filters, retention settings, and eviction policies. These controls determine which incoming data is stored and how long it remains available.
- Logs — Search, filter, and compare events from log sources when you investigate an incident.
- Traces — Follow a request across services, inspect spans, and identify where delays or failures occurred.
Integrations and administration Copied
Use these apps to connect ITRS Analytics with other services and manage the environment:
- Centralised Config — Manage supported Geneos Gateway configuration and binaries from one location.
- Commands — Run a supported Geneos command from Entity Viewer on the originating Geneos Gateway. The Gateway applies the user’s command permissions.
- IAM — Manage authentication, users, roles, and supported single sign-on providers.
- Notifications — Choose the entities to monitor, the severity that triggers a notification, and how long the condition must remain active. Send individual or grouped notifications to email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, ServiceNow, or a webhook, and send a further notification when the condition clears.
- Public API — Also known as API Gateway. Provides supported external tools with read-only access for querying entities, metric values, and summary statistics. To query metrics and logs from Grafana, install the separate Grafana data source plugin.
Analytics and AI Copied
Use these apps for specific analysis tasks:
- Agentic SRE — Ask operational questions and receive guidance from an AI assistant while investigating monitored services.
- Capacity — Monitor and plan capacity within ITRS Analytics.
- Capacity Planner — Publish monitoring data to an external ITRS Capacity Planner instance.
- Dynamic Thresholds — Learn a metric’s usual behavior from historical data and generate signals when current values move outside the expected range. This suits metrics that follow recurring patterns, such as changes in CPU use during scheduled processing.
- FIX Monitor — View FIX sessions, messages, metrics, and session events.
- Signal Forecaster — Forecast metric values from historical data. Configure warning or critical thresholds to generate a signal when the forecast indicates that a threshold may be crossed.
Infrastructure Copied
Some components primarily support other ITRS Analytics apps:
- Query Service — Prepares entity data for use by other apps. It does not provide a user-facing interface.
- Secrets — Stores credentials used by supported apps.
Note
Agentic SRE and Secrets are currently beta apps. App selection and availability depend on the installation package and license entitlements.
For Agentic SRE, which requires a license entitlement, see Enable Agentic SRE with a license entitlement.
