Create a dashboard from chat

Beta

The ITRS Agentic SRE app is currently available as a beta release. Features, behavior, and documented procedures are subject to change without prior notice during ongoing development. For how to open the chat and add an entity, see Use Agentic SRE for operations and support in ITRS Analytics.

You can use the Agentic SRE chat functionality to create a dashboard for a selected entity or a named scope. The chat builds a preview you can open and read before anything is stored.

Note

The preview link opens the dashboard in the Dashboards app. Dashboards is an optional app. Select it when you install ITRS Analytics. You need it to open the preview, find a saved dashboard in your dashboard list, and use the tiles.

If dashboard creation from the chat is turned off, the chat says that it cannot build one here. You can create a dashboard yourself in the Dashboards app.

Use this when you are investigating a service, host, or named scope and need a dashboard of the signals that scope already reports. The dashboard is meant to answer whether that scope is unavailable, slow, failing, or saturated, and which entity is in the worst state. You ask for it in the chat. The chat uses the metrics the scope reports and explains each tile before you save.

Tip

Watch this product demo tour in full screen to quickly explore the main UI elements and learn what actions you can take within the app.
  1. Open the AI chat. Add the entity to the prompt, or name the scope in the question. For how to add an entity, see Add entity context to a prompt.

  2. Ask the chat to create a dashboard. You can name what it should show, such as CPU, or ask for a dashboard without naming metrics. Create a dashboard

  3. If more than one scope matches the name you typed, the chat asks which scope to use. Choose one before it builds the dashboard.

  4. Read the reply before you save. It includes: AI chat dashboard prompt results

    • A link to the preview. The preview opens as a dashboard in the Dashboards app. It is not saved yet.
    • A section titled What is on it and why, which names each tile and why it was included.
    • Left out, when the scope has no metric for something you asked for. The dashboard covers what does exist and names the gap. It does not add a tile for data that was not found.
    • The sentence Nothing has been saved yet.
    • Save and Discard. The question includes the dashboard name, for example Save “EMEA — Host Health”?. The Save option keeps the dashboard so it appears in your dashboard list. While Discard throws the preview away.
  5. Click the preview link and review the dashboard. The same link is the dashboard you will keep if you save.

  6. Return to the chat and click Save or Discard, or type the option number in the prompt. A short reply such as yes saves the preview, and no discards it. For how numbered options work, see Answer a question from the chat.

A different question is treated as a new request. The chat can offer the same preview again, including Nothing has been saved yet. and the Save and Discard options.

Important

Save the preview before you leave it. If you open the preview and then go back inside the Dashboards app, the preview is deleted. Save then reports that the preview is no longer on the server. Ask the chat to build the dashboard again, and save it before you navigate away.

What the preview shows Copied

The dashboard name follows the scope and the question it answers. A request about host health for a scope named EMEA can open a dashboard named EMEA — Host Health. The name you see is the one the chat chose for your scope and question. Server Status — Server Health is the same kind of name: the scope, then the question the dashboard answers.

The preview is one tab, so you can read the trend first:

Dashboard generated from AI chat

If you name one subject and say that the dashboard should show only that subject, the dashboard is limited to it. If you name a subject without limiting the dashboard, that subject leads and the rest of the scope is still included.

What is on it and why lists the tiles that are on the dashboard. Use it to check that the metrics match the question you asked before you save.

Save or discard the preview Copied

Click Save to keep the dashboard. The chat replies Created your dashboard: and includes Open it. The saved dashboard uses the same link as the preview, so a preview you already opened remains the saved dashboard.

Click Discard to drop the preview. The chat replies Discarded — nothing was saved. The preview link stops working.

If you click Save and the chat has no preview waiting, it says that it does not have a dashboard preview to create. Ask it to build one, and it shows you the preview first.

Work with the open dashboard Copied

The preview and the saved dashboard open in the Dashboards app. The tiles show the metrics for the entity or scope you asked about. For how to build and manage dashboards yourself, see the Dashboards app.

From the open dashboard you can:

On a chart tile, when the dashboard is not in edit mode, Copy image copies that chart to the clipboard as a PNG image.

A chart is drawn from a source table. The source table is the dataview behind the chart: one row for each entity in scope, and a column for each metric, status, or dimension the tile uses. The chart plots rows from that table, and a column on the chart has to exist in the source table. The same tile can show that table under the chart, so you can read the entity names and values the line is based on.

Each chart can also use a time window, which sets the range of time drawn on that tile. You can change the window from the chart’s time window picker, or while the dashboard is in edit mode. For the available ranges, see Line chart.

Entity cards in a response provide separate actions for opening the related entity context or adding the entity to a prompt.
