Plugin reference

Overview

Listed below are all the plugins included with standard OP5 Monitor distributions. The Slim Poller does not include all of the plugins in the list.

You can extend the functionality of both standard OP5 Monitor installations and Slim Poller installations by installing custom plugins. For more information, see Custom plugins.

Note: If you have upgraded from an earlier version of OP5 Monitor or installed custom plugins, you may have additional plugins in your OP5 Monitor instance.

check_adam

Commands check_adam
Description Used to check the status of digital input coils in the Adam environment module.
Why? To make it easy to monitor environments and other elements with your Adam module
How? Everything is checked using SNMP.

check_apica_responsetime

Commands check_apica_responsetime, check_apica_authfile_responsetime
Description Checks the response time and status of the latest check of your Apica WPM service.
check_apica_responsetime will alert if the severity is not i (informational).
Why? This is a way to extend your normal monitoring by having the Apica WPM service doing advanced web application monitoring for you. OP5 Monitor takes care of the notifications and includew the results from Apica in reports.
How? You need an Apica account. The plugin then connects to the Apica WPM API and requests the status of your WPM check. The plugin then gets the results back in JSON format. Only the severity will trigger alerts, not the response time. The thresholds are set inside your Apica account.

check_apt

Description

Checks for software updates on systems that use package management systems based on the apt-get(8) command found in Debian GNU/Linux and Ubuntu.
Why? Helps you keep your Debian GNU/Linuxand Ubuntu systems updated with the latest security packages.
How? By using the apt sources added to the system to see if there are any new updates to download.

check_as400

Commands check_as400
Description

Checks different AS400 system information.
Why? To help you make sure your movex system is running as it is supposed.
How? It does so by connecting to the AS400 using telnet. The plugin uses the OMS400/ODS400 commands on the target machine.

check_aws

Description

Flexible Nagios plugin for monitoring CloudWatch-enabled AWS.
Why? To monitor AWS.
How? Uses Boto3 package for interacting with AWS, and nagiosplugin library to convert the results to a Nagios-interpretable format.

Description

Monitors BGP sessions.
Why? To identify overloaded servers.
How? Checks configured BGP peers using SNMP.

Description The plugin is used to monitor the Microsoft BizTalk application. The following can be monitored:
  • Receive locations status.
  • Send ports status.
  • Messages in the group overview.
Why? To make sure the status of receive locations and send ports are correct and to get notifications if there are any critical messages in the group overview.
How? The plugin uses the BizTalk msg database for monitoring.

Description

check_citrix

Description

Checks if the Citrix master browser returns a published application list that contains names specified in the check command.
Why? To ensure the right applications are published.
How? By communication with the Citrix server using the ICA protocol and requesting a list of published applications. It also enables you to create notifications if an application is missing from the list.

Description

Tests clamd connections with the specified host (or Unix socket).
Why? To make sure the clam antivirus daemon is running and is responding.
How? Connects to the clam daemon either via TCP or the local Unix socket. The received string is parsed.

Description

Monitors metrics from any instances in Amazon Web Services EC2, ELB, or RDS.
Why? To be able to keep track of how your instances are performing without installing any agents. You can check things like CPU, network, and disk.
How? This plugin reports metrics of an instance on Amazon Web Services EC2, ELB, or RDS using Amazon CloudWatch API. The Amazon credentials are read from an encrypted file. Using the Amazon CloudWatch API you can monitor the status of your instances without installing an agent or using SNMP. All you need to do is to create a read-only user, create a key pair, and add the key pair and credential keys to the OP5 Monitor server.

Description

Checks the expiration date of an domain name.

Description

Checks the status of an instance on Amazon Web Services EC2.
Why? To keep track of the status of your AWS EC2 instances.
How? This plugin checks the status of an instance on Amazon Web Services EC2 using Amazon EC2 API. The Amazon credentials are read from an encrypted file. Using the Amazon EC2 API you can monitor the status of your instances without installing an agent or using SNMP. all you need to do is to create a read-only user, create a key pair, and add the key pair and credential keys to the OP5 Monitor server and you are ready to go.

Description

Check temperature, wetness, and humidity of a probe connected to a Sensatronics EM1.

Description Checks the age and size of a file. It can also be used to monitor the number of files of a specific type in a folder.

How? The plugin can either query a remote machine over SNMP or be executed locally.
It needs to have HP ASM installed on the server to be able to get the information needed.
If you run it locally on HP servers, you need to have the command hpasmcli installed.

Description

Checks status of a web server
Why? To get the status of your web servers.
How? This plugin enables you to check a lot of different things on a web server, including response time, HTTP, HTTPS, specific URLs, match strings on a page, different ports, validity of SSL certificates, and more. You can also use it to validate certificates on mail servers.

Description Checks the status of VMware vSphere infrastructure.
Why? The plugin can be used to monitor the infrastructure managed by a VMware vCenter server or a VMware ESXi server, such as its data centres, clusters, hosts, and virtual machines. It can check a large range of different metrics and statuses, depending on the targeted infrastructure; for example CPU load, memory usage, network activity, and runtime states.
How? The plugin requires a separate service to run on the OP5 Monitor host. The plugin talks to the service which in turn talks to the target vSphere API server. The plugin service uses the pyVmomi vSphere API Python bindings from VMware to talk to the VMware vSphere infrastructure.
Supported platforms VMware vSphere infrastructure: VMware vCenter and VMware ESX and ESXi hypervisor hosts.
The plugin uses pyVmomi 6.7.1, which means that it fully supports vSphere 6.7.1, 6.7, 6.5 and 6.0.

When you encounter unknown sensors issues when using the check_vmware_v2 plugin, you can add the -x or --ignore-result option for ignoring all results with a matching description. Both options are interchangeable, and you should only use one of them. This is useful for counters such as runtime.health that contain multiple results values. With this option, you can exclude any unreliable results preventing known unknowns from affecting the check result, and still get an OK end result.

In the example below, the --ignore-result "rdlab01-datastore" option will ignore a sub-result that would cause a warning by passing its description to the --ignore-result. If the option is not set, the system will report the status as unknown.
