Network Topology Module

In this section, we offer step-by-step instructions providing you with specific guidance to successfully install the Opsview Monitor Network Topology feature.

Network Topology is a feature in Opsview to get a diagram of your network topology based on neighborhood information from compatible devices that run LLDP/CDP.

This feature requires SNMP to be enabled on your core networking equipment and LLDP/CDP to be enabled on devices to be detected. Additionally, this feature only supports network devices using IPv4 addresses.

Installing Network Topology Copied

For a fresh install, follow the instructions in the Advanced Automated Installation page.

If, however, you are adding the Network Topology feature on an existing system (including Virtual Appliances), run the following command as root after activating Opsview:

# install and Network Topology
cd /opt/opsview/deploy
./bin/opsview-deploy lib/playbooks/setup-opsview.yml

In either case, ensure that the optional feature is included in your Opsview license.

Note

This will schedule Network Topology detection to run at 2:00 AM every day.

Enabling Clusters for Network Topology and configuration Copied

Network Topology detection will still need to be enabled on each cluster to gather data. Additionally, you may want to modify the Network Topology feature configuration options. Please refer to Configuring Network Topology detection for details on both.

Auditing Network Topology Copied

Every time Network Topology detection according requested by the configured schedule, and when it completes, an ACTION entry in Configuration > Audit Log will be added, from the SYSTEM user.

Additionally, if Network Topology detection is requested when it is already running, this will be logged as a separate ACTION entry.
