Host Template: Cloud - Azure - DNS Zones

Overview Copied

Azure DNS is a hosting service for DNS domains. It provides name resolution using the Microsoft Azure infrastructure and allows efficient management of DNS records using the same credentials, APIs and tools as other Azure services. Since the Azure DNS service is based on the Azure Resource Manager, it provides the same Resource Manager features, such as; role based access control, activity logs and resource locking. As well as this, Azure DNS also supports private DNS domains, allowing you to use your own custom domain names.

This Host Template allows you to monitor all the metrics you need to efficiently run Azure DNS Zones on Microsoft Azure. After installation, you’ll be able to check the number of queries served, the number of record sets as well as the percentage of record set capacity utilized by a DNS Zone.

This Host Template includes the following Service Checks:

Service Check Name Description Default Thresholds (Metric: Warning, Critical) UOM
Azure - DNS Zone - Query Volume

Total number of Bytes transmitted within time period

[Default Timespan = 240mins, Default Check Interval = 60mins]

N/A N/A
Azure - DNS Zone - Record Set Capacity

Percent of Record Set capacity utilized by a DNS zone

[Default Timespan = 240mins, Default Check Interval = 60mins]

record_set_capacity_utilization: $WARNINGDT;70;85$,$CRITICALDT;90;95$

[Supports Dynamic Thresholds]

%
Azure - DNS Zone - Record Set Count

Number of Record Sets in a DNS zone

[Default Timespan = 240mins, Default Check Interval = 60mins]

N/A N/A

Note

The “Default Timespan” given for these Service Checks refers to the time period we use when retrieving metrics from Azure.

See details about Monitoring Plugin thresholds here.

Dynamic Thresholds Support Copied

Some Service Checks within this Host Template support Dynamic Thresholds for Opsview Enterprise.

Please review the overall Cloud - Azure Opspack documentation for details on prerequisites, known issues, and other necessary configurations that apply to all Host Templates in the Opspack.

Add this Host Template Copied

Add the Cloud - Azure - DNS Zones Host Template to your Opsview Monitor host. If the resource you’re monitoring has no hostname or public IP, then open the Advanced settings pane and change Host Check Command to Always assumed to be UP.

Note

For more information, refer to the documentation on Adding Host Templates to Hosts.

Add and configure Variables Copied

The Service Checks in this Host Template use the following variables, and they will be added to your Opsview Monitor instance alongside the Host Template:
