Overview Copied

While Flow Collector allows you to monitor the flow of data between network devices, the NetAudit Module provides network auditing and backing up capabilities, integrating with the RANCID network infrastructure management tool.

As per the RANCID official website: “RANCID monitors a router’s (or more generally a device’s) configuration, including software and hardware (cards, serial numbers, etc.) and uses CVS (Concurrent Version System) or Subversion to maintain history of changes.”

Opsview Monitor provides you with a central repository for your network device configuration files, with easy access to them. In the event of a network device failing and provided that you have backed up the configuration file, then when the given device is being replaced, you can then provide with the configuration file immediately, thus allowing to have the new device up and running within minutes. Backing up configuration files is essential to not waste time in re-writing those files manually when being in outage situation.

NetAudit works on a host by host basis and allows you to specify the vendor type (for example: Cisco) and authentication credentials needed in order to log in and view the network devices configuration. With these details, Opsview Monitor will then periodically log in and make a copy of the configuration and store it centrally. You can then compare the configuration files, see what has changed, who made changes and you will be notified about the changes.
