Entity overview

Overview Copied

The Entity overview page provides detailed information about a particular entity. From this page, you can monitor both the instantaneous and historical value of metrics associated with the entity.

The entity monitoring page is composed of four sections:

Attributes Copied

The Attributes header shows the current value of five of the attributes associated with the selected entity. The selection of attributes shown can be configured from the Attributes list.

To open the Attributes list, click See All Attributes.

Attributes list Copied

The attributes list shows all the available attributes, their type, and their value for the selected entity. The first five attributes are shown in the Attributes header of the entity overview and in the tooltips on the Monitoring page.

The order of the Attributes list is user configurable, to change the order:

  1. Click Edit order.
  2. Drag the Attributes into the desired order using the handles.
  3. Click Done.

Note

The changes to the order of attributes will affect all entities and will also change which attributes appear in tooltips.

Dataviews Copied

The Dataviews section shows all dataviews of the selected entity, organised by Geneos sampler.

A Sampler List is displayed on the left hand side, this list shows each sampler used to monitor the entity and each dataview created by the sampler.

Select a dataview from the Sampler List to display it on the right hand side. If a dataview has headline data this is displayed above the tabulated data. Each dataview in the list is colour coded based on the highest severity of its metrics, and includes an indicator of the number of rows in the dataview.

A dataview shows the most up to date values of each metric. Any metric with a severity status is highlighted in the appropriate colour.

Select a column name to sort the dataview by that property.

To view historical data, you can:

Metric history Copied

The Metric history panel shows a graph of the values of the selected metric over time, you can customise how this data is displayed. This requires that Gateway Hub has been setup to store metric and event history.

When you enable the Show expected bounds option, the expected bounds become visible for the entire displayed period. For example, when you select Today on the Date and time > Presets drop-down menu, you should be able to see the expected bounds for the entire day.

You can set the seasonal granularity in the Gateway Setup Editor, this determines how long an interval each value in the time series represents. However, Web Console will only display data at intervals as low as 5 minutes which is the minimum granularity for a seasonal request.

For more information about granularity, see Algorithm — Seasonal-quick in Data Sets (Time Series).

The following options are available in the Metric history:

Option Description
Date and time

Specify the time range the graph should display. You can specify a custom range or select from the available presets.

Time window Select the data to be included in the graph. Only data from selected days and times, within the time range, will be included.
Average Show a time series of the mean value of the metric.
Percentiles Show a time series of the median value of the metric with percentile regions shown by shading.
Avg + SDev + Min/Max Show a time series of the mean value of the metric with the minimum, maximum.
Show expected bounds

Show the expected values for a certain metric according to the historical data in the system.

This also allows you to compare the current values with the expected values based on historical data.

Note: This feature is only available if you have a few days of data stored in Gateway Hub.

Refresh Update the data chart of the selected metric.

Display events overlay in the entity metrics chart Copied

The events overlay in the chart allows you to view the aggregated information of the selected entity, such as the Critical, Warning, and OK status.

The status information of an entity at each point in time is also shown, using severity colour coding, above the chart.

In the example below, the status indicators ( ) show places where the aggregated information is available when you hover over the chart:

Discrete metrics Copied

If you select a Metric that is stored as a string and cannot be plotted continuously, such as a REACHABLE/UNREACHABLE status, the Metric history panel shows a table with the historic values of the Metric at each interval it was received by the Netprobe.

The Related events table shows the events, such as severity changes, associated with the selected metric.

Column name Description
Timestamp The time the event occurred, shown in the format dd/mm/yyyy <time>.
Details Brief description of the event.
Comments Comments attached to the event.
Metric Path Path to the metric.
