Configuration panels

Configuration panels are displayed on the left and the right side of the sunburst. From these panels you have access to more options to see more details of your Baseline View or Forward Thinking scenarios, or to change their configuration.

Note

Actions available in some panels differ depending if you open them from Baseline View or from Forward Thinking.

Info panel Copied

The information panel displays basic overview information about the Baseline View or Forward Thinking scenario you are viewing.

The information includes date ranges of the baseline and the number of reports. Additionally, for Forward Thinking it also includes the name of the Baseline View the scenario is based on.

Groupings panel Copied

In this panel, you can check which groupings and grouping values are currently added to the Baseline View. You can also add and remove them, as well as change the order of the groupings in the hierarchy.

For more information, see Groupings.

VM headroom panel Copied

This panel provides information about the metrics that are used to calculate the headroom in the current view. By selecting and deselecting different metrics, you can add or remove the selected metrics from headroom calculations in the VM headroom metric view. For more information, see VM headroom in Metric Views.

This panel also provides information on the currently selected headroom reference virtual machine that is used in the calculations.

For more information about the concept of headroom in Capacity Planner, see Headroom.

Model panel Copied

In the Model panel you can view and change the statistical measures for metrics that are used to drive the sunburst headroom calculations (for example the CPU 95th percentile), and the period of time to represent as a statistical summary in the model. A summary is a collection of statistical measures for a subset of the date range used to generate your baseline model. For example, if you are viewing a summary for a given month or day, and you are viewing the 95th percentile values, the percentile is generated using only data for that summary. Thanks to this, data in the baseline is not reprocessed every time you want to change your time frame. You just apply a different summary and the sunburst changes to show that model only.

You can only update the Model panel in the Baseline View. In Forward Thinking, the panel is read-only.

For more information, see Statistical summaries in the Baseline View.

Benchmark panel Copied

In this panel, you can check which host is currently set as your reference host and what its details are. You can also locate it in the sunburst by clicking Locate server image .

For more information, see Benchmarking.

Operations panel Copied

The Operations configuration panel is the main location for all information about the total overcommitment in your Forward Thinking scenario. It lists the VMs, datastores, and hosts where the capacity demand is breached, along with details of the total CPU demand, memory demand, storage, and Disk IO demand of all overcommitted VMs.

It also displays the All Operations which details every operation you perform in your Forward Thinking scenario model.

Note: The Operations panel is only visible in .

For more information, see Operations.

Storage panel Copied

The Storage panel provides a detailed breakdown of the shared datastores and local storage. You can view details of the datastores in your Baseline View, and how these datastores are used by the hosts and VMs.

For more information, see Storage.

Templates panel Copied

Templates are used for adding new workloads or hosts in the editor. They also allow for creating a business demand template or modelling a disaster recovery situation.

In the Templates panel, you can view and manage all templates currently available in your baseline.

For more information, see Templates.

Events panel Copied

Events are predictions of when metrics trends are such that a threshold is likely to be breached at some point in the near future. This allows you to take proactive steps before events occur.

In the Events panel, you can view and manage your Operational Events and Long Term Cluster Trends.

For more information, see Capacity events.

Risk panel Copied

In the Risk panel, you can find out which VMs are behaving unusually, but not necessarily exhibiting any definite growth trends. You can also turn off the metric you are not interested in. The panel also displays the risk scores for the current view.

For more information, see Risk Scores.

Watch list panel Copied

In the Watch list panel, you can see a list of entities that are breaching the configured capacity thresholds. Entities appear on the watch list when they move into their reserve headroom on the baseline or when they breach capacity constraints entirely in Forward Thinking.

The watch list indicates items that you need to look at now because they already hit the threshold.

Clusters panel Copied

The Clusters panel provides a summary of all clusters visible in the current active Baseline View . It shows the number of redundant hosts in a cluster, as well as the number of reference workloads that can be added to this cluster before the redundancy policy is breached or before the cluster reaches full saturation.

For more information, see Clusters.
