Infrastructure and service reports

Overview Copied

You can use your Baseline View to generate reports and see how newly added data affects the hosts and VMs you’ve chosen to include in the Baseline View.

A Baseline View report is a detailed breakdown of host and VM utilisation, downloaded in a PDF format. It includes the complete memory and CPU utilisation and headroom figures used to create the Baseline View.

When you create and save a report, its content does not change. It is a snapshot of the baseline as soon as you save it. Reports are not updated when you add new data to your project, the way your Forward Thinking scenario models and Baseline View are.

Note: It is important to distinguish the Baseline View and Forward Thinking scenario reports from the more advanced reporting features of Capacity Planner where you can summarise utilisation, create RAG reports, analyse relationships between metrics, and so on. To learn more about reporting, see Using advanced reports.

One view, multiple reports Copied

Each Baseline View can store multiple reports, which means you can create an archive of reports over time for each of your different views. This is especially useful for creating recurring reports for the same view, which always use your most up-to-date uploaded data.

This also means that you can create new reports for the same view at regular intervals, without having to configure a new Baseline View to do so. Reports that need to be created at regular intervals, such as an end-of-month report, are ideally suited for this application.

There is no limit to the number of reports you can create from a Baseline View.

Types of reports Copied

There are two types of reports that you can generate for a Baseline View:

Report structure Copied

Reports are generated as PDF files. They are split into logical groups and organised by utilisation.

Each of the report sections contains tables of breakdown for each VM showing the different metric details. The Baseline View chart is included at the beginning in the summary to give you an overview, and data for each host is included at the end.

Create a Baseline View report Copied

To create a new Baseline View report, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Baseline View you want to create a new report for.
  2. Zoom in to the segment that you want to use as basis for your report. Reports are specific to the area of Baseline View that you are currently in.
  3. From the application menu bar, select Reports > Generate infrastructure report or Reports > Generate service report depending on the report you wish to generate.
  4. Enter the name for your new report and click Generate report. Note that the report name includes the Baseline View name by default but you can change it.

The report is created in PDF format.

Depending on how much data needs to be added to the report, it may take a few minutes for the report to generate. When the report is generated, it appears on the list of your available reports under Reports > View reports.

Note

The report includes the details of only the hosts and VMs that are displayed on theBaseline View at the time you create the report.

Open a Baseline View report Copied

To view a Baseline View report that you previously generated, follow the steps:

  1. Open the Baseline View you want to view the report for.
  2. From the application menu bar, select Reports > View reports.
  3. Select the report you wish to open.

The report is downloaded to your computer in PDF format.

Alternatively, reports can be accessed from the project home screen:

  1. Open the Baseline View accordion.
  2. Locate the Baseline View for which you created a report. The number of created reports appears on the list.
  3. Click the number and select the report you wish to open.

You can also delete a report directly form this list.
