Released: March 2019
This release introduces a change to the cluster headroom reporting tab.
Previously, the cluster headroom table would use the global headroom reference to determine redundancy and headroom to N+x capacity and full capacity. A limitation of this was that some clusters may have workloads that deviate significantly from the average (for example, a cluster of SQL Server machines). As such, using the global average machine as a reference may overstate capacity for that cluster.
This release introduces a feature that allows the user to choose to use either the sunburst headroom reference (the current default) or a calculated average per cluster. To use this, select the ‘select calculated average demand for each Cluster’ check box, then Apply Settings’ at the bottom of the tab. After a brief calculation the table will update to show headroom and redundancy figures using a calculated average per cluster.
Please note, this will result in the headroom figure being shown in the tab differing from the headroom figure on the sunburst. However, if you double click on a cluster, bring up the right click menu, select ‘calculate average’ and then use that calculated average as a reference, the numbers for that chosen cluster will now match.
Below is an example of cluster table using global reference.
Below is an example of cluster table using calculated average per cluster. Note that the headroom figures changed accordingly compared to the previous example.
Several bugs have been fixed in this release.
- An issue where ordering of baselines was lost when coming out of a view has been addressed.
- A bug which caused the sunburst to ‘disappear’ when particular grouping combinations are used has been fixed. In this case, if a grouping combination is not valid the user will be provided with a message indicating this.
